Porcelain Painting Summer Camp 2

Hi friends,

As I promised in my previous post today I am going to show you the porcelain dishes that I painted during the summer camp in June. Since we were painting every day from morning till evening for four days I got a lot of work done. I painted four big dinner plates and two cups and saucers during the four days.

One of the cup and saucers was sold to a friend of mine immediately as soon asI arrived back home before I could take a photo of it. But here I will show you the photo of all the rest. I must say the plates are not done completely to my liking and I will continue to work on them. I think the colors can be stronger. All these dishes are painted in German style associated with Meissen and Dresden.

I photographed one of the plates right before the first firing. All the plates were fired at least three times so far.

This last plate remained half done. The side flowers on the rim are only at stage one.

Porcelain Painting Summer Camp

Hi dear readers,

I spent the first week of June in porcelain painting summer camp in North East of Finland. The camp took place in a little town in Northern Karelia called Lieksa. The camp site was next to a beautiful lake and all around us was beautiful North Karelian forests with lots of tall ever greens. We spent several hours every day painting porcelain under the supervision of our lovely and very skillful teacher Aino Hoikka.

Unfortunately I was absent minded enough to forget to take my camera with me, so my photos are taken with my cellphone camera, so I apologize for the poor quality. But luckily this camp is an annual event and for sure I will be participating next year as well and I sure will remember my camera next time! Besides the scenery was so picturesque and glorious that even poor cellphone camera quality cannot hide its magnificent beauty!

Here are the photos from the area. I took these photos at midnight. So here you can see northern midnight sun! As you might know close to North Pole the sun never really sets during the summer, but only goes to a setting position, but instead of setting stays low for a short while and then rises up again. It is really beautiful.

Every night after our class ended and we sent our painted porcelain to the kiln I went to take a walk around the lake and in the local forest. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday! I never felt so in love with my adopted country, Finland, as when I was walking in the local forest in Lieksa under the midnight sun!

I hope you can enjoy these photos despite their poor quality:

Afternoon Snack Table

   Hi dear readers,

Sorry for being absent for so long. I was away from home a lot and I was rather busy enjoying summertime outdoors activities otherwise.

Last weekend I invited my in-laws for some afternoon snacks. It was an opportunity to use my hand painted dessert plates. I served some sandwiches and pastry and some yummy fizzy watermelon drink. It was really easy to make. Just blend some watermelon with carbonated water, juice of one lemon, and add sugar or some other sweetener to taste.

I took some photos of our rather colorful snack table in my kitchen that I want to share with you.

And here are some photos of summer flowers that I picked from our backyard and the mini-flower garden in our balcony.
